Implemented in 2022, the demonstration project by CCP and ICLEI South Asia marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainable urban freight systems in alignment with India’s national e-mobility goals. After extensive groundwork and stakeholder engagement, the project successfully operationalized a fleet of 14 electric Light Commercial Vehicles and 15 electric cargo bikes, enabling a crucial shift from diesel and petrol-based freight to clean, electric alternatives.

This initiative not only showcases the feasibility of electrifying urban goods transport but also introduces the innovative concept of load pooling to optimize last-mile delivery. The project is helping to validate models that reduce emissions, improve urban air quality, and create replicable solutions for other Indian cities. It also provides valuable insights for both state and national governments to shape a supportive ecosystem for the broader adoption of electric freight vehicles.
