Himachal Pradesh hosted 15.1 million visitors in 2022, most arriving by road from states where EV ownership is growing fast. New roads and 19 tunnels are shortening journeys. What stops an EV tourist is range anxiety and not knowing where to charge.

The strategy

Hotels can install AC chargers on existing connections and serve overnight charging, while the Green Corridor fast chargers cover the journey. The strategy maps polycentric tourist hotspots, recommends where hotels and restaurants should charge, and asks for charging information on digital platforms tourists already use.

An EV-friendly hotel

A certification guideline gives hotels and restaurants an official sustainability rating from the state once they install a charging station, and lists them on the tourism website as Eco and EV-friendly. Hotels across seven districts have since installed chargers: Shimla 20, Solan 10, Kullu 10, Kangra 5, Mandi 4, Dalhousie 1 and Una 1.
